|SVFD Roast Honors Syme's 22 Years as Chief|
|Jul 18 -- The SVFD honored Dan Syme's 22 year tenure as Chief by giving him a grand grilling at the SVFD Roast of Chief Daniel Syme, held at Wright's Mill Farm in Canterbury. The evenings festivities started off with the presentation of "The Man, The Myth, The Mustache: The Story of Daniel Syme", followed by the roast, hosted by Ray Arnott and featuring roasters Tony Kasacek III, Noel Waite, Louis Lambert, and Cory Kasacek. State Rep. Chris Coutu presented Chief Syme with a letter from US Rep. Joe Courtney, a citation from the Connecticut State House, and a Official Statement from Governor M. Jodi Rell declaring July 18, 2009 Fire Chief Daniel D. Syme Day in the State of Connecticut. SVFD Vice President Robert Hamel thanked Dan on behalf of the membership with a trophy, and newly elected SVFD Chief Anthony Kasacek Jr. gave a heartfelt thanks by presenting his predecessor's encased helmet.
